

Currently, neither the South Bass Trailhead nor rim camps in the Pasture Wash area can be accessed by vehicle.

During June, July and August, the bus leaves Bright Angel Lodge at 4, 5, and 6 am. The Hikers' Express Bus is an early morning bus from Grand Canyon Village to the South Kaibab Trailhead. The route is in operation from 4 am until 30 minutes after sunset. The Kaibab Rim (Orange) Route Shuttle BusĮastbound shuttles provide direct service between the Visitor Center Bus Terminal and South Kaibab Trailhead.Hours of operation: 8 am to noon and 1 to 5 pm daily.įree Shuttle Bus Transportation to South Kaibab Trailhead Obtain a permit at the Backcountry Information Center.Backcountry Permits : Most overnight camping permits are issued well in advance.Water pipeline breaks are common, and Grand Canyon National Park recommends that hikers and runners be prepared to filter or disinfect creek water along corridor trails.Hikers and runners: check this page for current water availability > Critical Backcountry Updates >.Water is now available along Bright Angel Trail at One and a Half Mile Resthouse and Three-Mile Resthouse and Plateau Point.Rescue is never guaranteed, and help is harder to get outside the corridor. They are not recommended as an alternative for Rim-to-Rim canyon crossings, especially for first time hikers and runners to Grand Canyon. Tip # 2 - Plan ahead and don't hike wilderness trails since they are more remote and require preplanning.

Tip #1 - Stay on the main corridor trails of the South Kaibab and Bright Angel trails, or hike up the North Kaibab to the closure and return. With the North Kaibab Trail still closed north of Manzanita Rest Area, alternative routes -instead of the traditional Rim-to-Rim hiking and/or running need to be well thought-out and planned. And we've had a fair share of rescues already! It's that time of year when many hikers and runners are planning extended day trips through the inner canyon.Following June 15, the North Kaibab Trail will reopen with intermittent trail closures in effect to clear remaining rockfall areas.

No hikers will be allowed to pass through this area under any circumstances. The closure area is from north of Manzanita Rest Area to the North Kaibab Trailhead.
